No One Else Can Do It for You

Have you ever been faced with a situation where you wish that there was someone out there who could just take over for you and sort it out on your behalf? I’m sure we’ve all felt like that at some point or another. Unfortunately though, there is rarely a situation in life where this is possible, unless you want to pay for the privilege, of course. Most of the time, it is down to you and you alone to sort out your problems or to make something happen in your life.

Let’s consider a few situations where you may need to be proactive in your thinking if you are ever going to get a situation sorted out. Maybe you’ll be able to relate to some of these or perhaps these examples will bring to mind other areas in your life where you would like to see changes.

Saving Money

I think it’s quite safe to say that most people these days just aren’t saving enough money to prepare adequately for their financial future. If you are in this position then you probably know that changes need to be made in your lifestyle if this is ever going to change and you can begin ramping up the amount you are saving. Are you still putting it off, though? Are you hoping that one day somebody else is going to step in and sort the situation out for you? Possibly from an inheritance or something along those lines? If you are then it may be wise to start thinking differently. Sure, you may well find yourself with an inheritance one day, one which could get you out of a financial hole. Wouldn’t that be great? It is equally possible however that you may not receive anything like this, with more and more people choosing to spend their very last dollar during retirement enjoying their life savings, rather than to pass it on to the next generation.

Finding the Right Career

Are you sick of your career? Do you long to do a job you love – or at least like – rather than grinding your days out until retirement? If this sounds like you then perhaps it is time you considered changing your career.

A change of career is not usually the sort of thing that gets handed to you on a plate; usually you have to put firm plans in place to make it happen. You may even have to take a few risks or suffer a temporary drop in salary to make a change of career achievable. It’s certainly true to say that the chances of somebody randomly approaching you with a dream job offer in your dream career are very slim indeed. If you want to change your career then it is you alone who can make this dream a reality. In most cases, nobody else can or will do this for you.

Paying Off Debt

I’m going to let you into a little secret, there is never going to be a ‘right’ time to start paying off your debt. If you want to pay off your debt then it is more than likely going to involve some temporary or even permanent sacrifice on your part. This is another situation where nobody else can do it for you, though. If you want to get out of debt and become debt free then at some point then you are going to have to take the bull by the horns and get on with sorting the situation out. If you are waiting for the day to come when some random person comes along and hands you a big fat cheque and says ‘there you go fella, now you’re debt free’ then it would be wise to face up to the reality that this is EXTREMELY unlikely to happen. It is you and you alone who is going to have to sort your debt problem out, nobody else.

Starting a Business

Do you dream of escaping the rat race one day and becoming your own boss? This doesn’t have to be just a dream, it can become a reality! To make this dream a reality, though, will require a lot of the same things we mentioned earlier when we talked about changing careers. Starting your own business will involve risk, sacrifice and the possibility of a temporary drop in income. I can say from personal experience that the freedom and satisfaction that comes along with being your own boss however is more than worth these potential risks and sacrifices. Two of the primary qualities or personality traits you will need to start up your own business are determination and persistence. These things can only come from within you yourself; nobody can give them to you. Sure, people can advise and inspire you, but it is you alone who has to make the decision to start up your own business and then put in the needed effort to get it off the ground.

Making Your Business Work

What about if you’ve been running your own business for a long while now but recently you’ve found that things haven’t been going so well? Perhaps the game has changed, new technologies have come to the fore or new competitors have entered the fray. Can you afford to sit around and hope that things go back to the way they were or that your competition goes away? This would more than likely be a huge mistake. As the world around us is changing constantly, we also as individuals must keep up and stay ahead of the game if we want to remain successful. Nobody else can make these changes or adjustments for us; we have to make them ourselves.

Learning Something New

Have you always wanted to further your professional development, perhaps by taking a course or learning a new language? If you have, then if you are ever going to make this happen it is you alone who is going to have to put the effort in. No other human can miraculously place new knowledge into our brain. No, we have to study hard and make the effort to put it in there ourselves. Sure, some may find it easier than others, but it will still require hard work and determination to learn anything new.

We can see then that there are many, many situations in life where if we want to do or achieve something then it is us alone who can make it happen. If we sit around and wait for someone to place an opportunity in our hand then the chances are that we are going to be waiting for a very, very long time indeed, maybe forever.

  1. You’re definitely right that NO one else can do it for you. Right now, I’m still working on to pay my debt and hopefully by next year, I would become debt free.
