Ways to Make Money Online for Free

We have all been there when we first start researching how to make money online. You do your first Google search and come across many people telling you about their hair-brained scheme which made them a million online in just 6 months, then come the inevitable words ‘Just sign up to my online course for only…’. Then you think about starting a website and you realize that you will have to buy a domain name and pay for hosting etc., not a huge expense but an expense nonetheless. Maybe I could sell on eBay you think? But where will I get my initial stock and how much is that going to cost? Starting your own blog or selling on eBay can certainly be good ways to earn some extra money online but what if you literally do not want to spend a cent to get going? Is it possible to make money online for free, I mean completely free?

Well the good news is that there are some credible free ways to make money online as long as you are willing to be realistic about what you might earn.

Freelancing

If you have skills that you feel others can benefit from then perhaps you could consider freelancing. You might be a good writer or maybe you have design skills? All of these skills are in great demand online and some people are able to earn really good money doing freelance work. It may take you a little while to build up your reputation but websites like elance, odesk and fiverr will all allow you to sign up for free and offer your skills. In fact you can offer just about any service on fiverr to make a bit of money, as long as it’s legal of course. :-)

What if you enjoy writing but don’t feel confident enough to write for somebody else just yet? If this is the case then you could always try a site like HubPages instead. HubPages allows you to sign up for free and start earning money on any articles or experiences you write about from day one. You may not earn mega bucks right away but over time you could build a nice little side income on there, I know a few people who have done just that.

Upload Original Videos to YouTube

It’s amazing what people will watch on YouTube, isn’t it? Have a think back to some of the videos you have watched in the past. I’m thinking funny videos, mobile phone reviews, original songs (a friend of mine makes a little money this way) or even something as simple as how to correctly fold a T-shirt. You can upload anything original to YouTube and start earning money from the adverts shown by signing up for a free Google Adsense account and linking it with your YouTube channel. I can’t recall the amount of baby product reviews, website building tutorials and who knows what else I’ve watched over the years. My wife was even watching craft making videos on there the other day and I’m sure that somebody somewhere was making a little money out of it, so why couldn’t you make a bit of money too?

Giving your opinion for money

I’ve never been a great fan of taking online surveys or taking part in online market research for money, simply because I’ve always found that the financial benefit hasn’t been worth my time. To be fair though I also haven’t tried it for a long time and I know that some new websites that allow you to give your opinion for money have been set up since then, so maybe things have improved. It is certainly a simple way to make a bit of money online for free though so I thought it warranted a mention. Maybe you will have a better experience than I did.

Here we have mentioned just a few free ways to make a little money online. Do you know of more and which has been the most profitable for you?

  1. Freelancing has certainly made me the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time. You have to be confident and sure of yourself to do it, though!

Glad to hear you have done so well with freelancing Michelle. Sometimes it is all about having the confidence to just give it a go!

  2. I do a lot of freelance writing but I spent a lot of time building my own site without compensation before I saw any significant income. To stay competitive on sites like odesk you also have to have insanely low prices which are just not worthwhile to me.

It does take a long time to see some reward for your blogging efforts doesn’t it Stefanie. I think it’s worth it in the end though :-)

  3. I’m a freelancer for almost 4 years now and I love doing it. But I’m thinking to build my own website in the future.

It’s that old dilemma of finding enough time to keep up your current income whilst investing time into something else which won’t always bring instant rewards isn’t it Clarisse. I’m sure you’ll make a great job of it though!

  4. You can also do virtual assistant work through managing social media channels, loading blogs, editing, etc, etc. I do some of this, it doesn’t require a lot of time, and you can make some good money doing it.

I didn’t know there was good money to be made doing VA work Brock, I’ll have to look into that.

I tried answering surveys before and I didn’t make any money out of them and they just consume too much of my time. That’s why I stop doing that.

Yeah I found it to be a waste of time too Mark. Some people do make money from it though and it’s free to start, so I thought I’d better include it.
